Coupé Cloué (Jean Gesner Henry) was a prominent Haitian musician known for defining a style of kompa music called kompa manba. He was also a skilled guitarist and bandleader. Was also known as the original rapper and poetry and story telling in his songs.
He was known for his Creole lyrics and raps, often filled with current slang, and jokes, which resonated with the Haitian masses. His songs sometimes contained bawdy innuendo.

Coupé Cloué began performing as a guitarist in Port-au-Prince in 1951, forming the band Trio Crystal, which later became Trio Select. Trio Select popularized the use of the guitar in Haiti in the 1950s and 1960s
Coupé Cloué's Compas manba style significantly influenced Haitian music, bridging generations and inspiring contemporary artists. He is considered an essential figure in Haitian music, compared to Bob Marley's influence on Jamaican music.

During his first tour of central Africa in 1975, Coupé Cloué was given the nickname "Le Roi" (The King) by fans, a testament to his international appeal.

In 1997, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. He was also honored in Haiti by musicians, media, and the public.

Some of his popular songs include "Mon Compe / Ti Bom," "Jouk Li Jou (Live)," "Anba banna'n," "Madam Marcel (Live)," "Bel mariage," and "Fanm kolokent". He released numerous albums throughout his career, including "L'Essentiel," "The Preacher," and "40th anniversary". In this video.
