Description
Following her army service (like all young people in Israel - male and female alike - she entered the army at the age of 18 for 2 years of compulsory service, which she spent as a secretary), Ofra decided to make a singing career.
Since Israel’s major songwriters initially rejected Haza’s requests to write songs for her at first, her manager, Bezalel Aloni began composing works for her himself.
Al Ahavot Shelanu (About Our Love) is officially considered to be her first album as soloist (but it's indeed the second one). It’s an entirely pop-themed album, which brought her major success.
In 1979, Ofra appeared in the film Shlager (The Hit), performing the song “Shir HaFrecha” written by Assi Dayan and Svika Pick. The song became a huge hit and Ofra led the hit parades on all the radio stations, earning the title “Singer of the Year” four times from 1980 to 1983.
Also in 1979, Ofra starred in the israeli musical drama Na'arat Haparvarim (West Side Girl) directed by George Ovadiah, written by Bezalel Aloni and Michael Shvili. She sang multiple hits in the film like Eynayim (Eyes), Atah Kore Li (You’re Calling Me) and K’mo Tzipor (Like A Bird), these were released on Ofra’s next album Al Ahavot Shelanu (About Our Love).
Lyrics (English translation):
You walk alone there in the city
Walk alone, and you don't recognize me
Tired and shy, yes, such a stubborn soldier
Well, so what if I said a word to another man?
Well, and what if I said, maybe you'll give in?
Maybe, maybe you'll give in?
You insist on leaving everything
You insist on returning to the sand
To return to everyone, what a stubborn man
Perhaps you'll kiss and see how good it is
Perhaps you'll kiss and please don't leave
Don't leave
Just give me your hand, come to rest
Give me your hand, come to forget
Give me, give me a hand, my love, without running away
Give me your hand without knowing
What will happen tomorrow, if some time
You'll return to me
Come back to me
You still look at me, just stare and you’re silent
Perhaps you'll ask at last, which of the two of us is right?
You or I, oh, an unknown man laughs
Alright, stop, because the road won't run away from you
Alright, then go with peace, and don't forget me
Don't you forget me
You insist on leaving everything
You insist on returning to the sand
To return to everyone, what a stubborn man
Perhaps you'll kiss and see how good it is
Perhaps you'll kiss and please don't leave
Don't leave
Just give me your hand, come to rest
Give me your hand, come to forget
Give me, give me a hand, my love, without running away
Give me your hand without knowing
What will happen tomorrow, if some time
You'll return to me
Come back to me
Just give me your hand, come to rest
Give me your hand, come to forget
Give me, give me a hand, my love, without running away
Give me your hand without knowing
What will happen tomorrow, if some time
You'll return to me
Come back to me
